Faith over Fear

We were not created to have fear, did you know that (2Tim 1:7)? In this video I do a quick run though of the first 30 chapters of Genesis and some of the times that they were afraid and ended up making bad decisions. Now the good news is that God saved them from themselves! But the bad decisions still had rippling effects. When we are afraid that God forgot about us or that we are running out of time, and we take action, we are acting out of a lack of faith and letting our anxiety get the best of us. Adam and Eve, Abram and Sarai, Lot’s daughters, Isaac and Rachel, Leah and Rebekah…they all let their own anxiety and agenda get in the way of what God have for them. Don’t let this happen to you! I encourage you to write down all of the things you are afraid of…and for the record, I don’t mean things like snakes or bears. That kind of fear is a legitimate reaction to keep us alive. But what are you afraid of with God? Can you pray over these things everyday to grow your faith muscle? Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has a plan for us, a plan for good and not evil, and plan for future and hope. Dear friends, don’t live in fear!

Why Your Therapist Wants You to go to the Doctor!

So I had a physical last week. Just my annual check up; you know, the one that is free because it is preventative care?! Well, my doctor saw something that I have never seen and now I have to get an ultrasound on my neck. But that’s not the point. The point is that there are a ton of medical issues that look like mental health issues. Did you know that a slow thyroid can look like depression? Lethargic, weight gain, poor sleep, all things that are part of depression. A simple blood test from your doctor can determine if the thyroid is to blame or not, and if so, a tiny little pill everyday gets it back in check.
Look, we cannot separate our mental from our physical. When you are emotionally exhausted, guess what, it takes a toll on your physically too! If you are battling something emotionally or mentally, make sure you are drinking enough water and getting enough sleep. You have to take care of yourself physically too. Make sense? Ok, now, go to the doctor for a check up!

  2. Be True to Yourself

    The first rule of living is to know yourself. What I mean by that is that you have to know who you are, what is your purpose. And I don’t mean what you do; not “I’m a mom, wife, counselor.” I mean I am an encourager, leader, teacher. These are qualities and characteristics that go with me in any role I am in.
    The second rule is to be true to those things. To continually ask yourself, “am I encouraging others, am I leading, and I teaching?”
    When we do not do these things that are make up who we are, we will experience anxiety. See the video for a visual aid in what I mean.
